We understand
the home building cycle.
Native Oak established in 2016, but our team has a legacy of over 75 years in the Southern California homebuilding industry. Our co-founder, Jay B. McCoy, is deeply integrated in the homebuilding industry, having been involved in the construction of thousands of homes and apartments throughout Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. In 1946 his grandfather, Wilbur Rubottom, started W.L. Rubottom Company in Los Angeles to build cabinets for the burgeoning post-war home building boom in Southern California. Realizing an opportunity was available to expand the business into the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County, Rubottom relocated to Ventura in the 1960s and built a factory. Jay is the third generation to operate W.L. Rubottom Company in Ventura, expanding its reach into San Luis Obispo County and beyond to help satisfy the need for housing in the Central Coast.
A custom solution with a production mindset.
Sensing a need for a production minded custom cabinet solution on the Central Coast and some of the coastal facing Los Angeles County communities, Jay collaborated with a successful local entrepreneur, Keith Repult, and a talented team of experienced woodworkers to found Native Oak in 2016. Previous experience in the cabinet industry gave the team particular insight into how critical millwork is to the timeline and overall success of the home building process. A builder cannot continue with flooring, electrical, plumbing, countertops, appliances, and wall surfaces without a complete and correct cabinet installation. While timeliness and efficiency is essential, we also understand the challenges of executing diverse, fully custom projects. Native Oak is agile enough to provide fully custom solutions while operating with a production mindset.
Technology and innovation.
Native Oak uses a 12’x10’ Morbidelli by SCM CNC router to produce all of our cabinet parts with precision. We’ve invested heavily in our ability to finish in the factory, streamlining our workflow and delivering jobs more quickly. We use a halogen based drying tunnel from Prime Heat in San Diego to rapidly cure our low VOC water-based finish (which is safer for the customer). All cabinets arrive finished and ready to go.
That magic 10%.
We operate on a 90/10 philosophy: 90% of a job will most often be ‘standard’, but the 10% custom aspect is where the magic happens — and where we come in. Whether it’s a rounded edge kitchen peninsula, a multi-level upper that turns a corner, an arched cabinet with an organic curve, or a floor to ceiling luxury wine room, we are able to build it.
